The monastery is just a nice monastery, but there’s a bookstore, a bakery and a place to rest and read. So all in all a nice place to stay for an hour or two.

It is not easy to see an Abbey so succesful in operation as this one. The building from the 1930's but it was a very old Carolingian Abbey and dissolved with the secularisation of 1803. Simple and robust lines of the church, there are many activities in the Abbey, seminars, religious shop, very much visited baker and butcher wher you will find a souvenir, wine or sausages of Franconia for instance

Founded before 788 by Fastrada, the third wife of Charlemagne as convent. The abbey is dedicated to the Holy Saviour, the Virgin Mary and Saint Felicity. Private foundation of the Carolingian ruling house: the abbesses were daughters of the imperial family, for example Theodrada (853) daughter of Charlemagne. After the death of the last Carolingian abbess in 877, Bertha, the nuns left the abbey and it was taken over by Benedictines from "Megingaudshausen". 1803 Abrogated during the Bavarian secularisation. The monastic buildings were auctioned off. In 1805 the abbey church was sold and deconsecrated. In 1810 the buildings were struck by lightning and severely damaged by the subsequent fire, and between 182-1827 the remains of the church were entirely demolished, and those of the monastic buildings largely demolished. 1913 the old abbey remains were acquired by the Missionary Benedictines (Ottilien Congregation), along with the 130 ha of land. The monumental abbey church with its four towers was built between 1935-1938 (architect Albert Bosslet). 1941-1945 The abbey was confiscated by the National Socialists and used as a military hospital. Although the monastic community had been expelled, some monks were able to remain as workers in the hospital. It reopened after the war.
