Amazing beach. Approx 500m of golden sand backed by trees and clear blue water. Plenty of sand to lie on - ignore the absurdly priced Costa Costa beds that seem to cater to the cruise liner market - you can still use the showers & loos. When the wind is up & in right direction their are brilliant waves which are perfect for adrenaline heavy body-surfing. Loved it - much better than Myrtos!

We took a beach tent to this beach as we had already been told the cost of parasols and sun loungers was extortionate. No way we’re we going to spend silly money on a parasol and lounges. It is a lovely beach but it does have an incline into the sea which is stony and you need beach shoes. Also you tend to sink into the stones when getting in and out of the sea which can make it difficult. There were a lot of steps to get down to the beach. The sea was lovely and clear and such a lovely colour.

This is a great beach for swimming and sunbathing, with clean and modern facilities. The sun loungers (standard not front row or day bed packages) were 25 euros for two. Comfortable, padded loungers with a parasol and table.
Makris Gialos is a sandy beach, with clear, warm waters with lovely fish swimming alongside you.
The bar, showers and toilet facilities are great and definitely represent some of the value of the sun lounger fee. The staff are visible and attentive and ready to take your food and drink orders. The prices are a little inflated but not by much, and the overall set up and experience provide good value.

A nice beach just outside of Argostoli (walkable or a €10 taxi). Went here twice. You do have to pay for Sun loungers but they are much more comfortable than others on the island and the bar/facilities are well looked after and clean. The only downside is I and a few other people were bitten by the fish in the sea, and not the type that clean your toes, a Sargo? Bite was actually a little painful but didn’t stop me from going back in and my girlfriend wasn’t bitten once 🤷🏻♂️

without a doubt our favourite beach in Kafelonia, soft sand with great sunbeds ( a bit expensive at 25E) great places to eat directly behind, watersports such as SUP, jet skis, the things you sit on behind speedboats, kayaks etc, very gentle slope in the water.....Just perfect for lazing and reading a book, went multiple times and would recommend for couples...Amazing place

Here now,
beach is lovely but just been charged 25 euros for 2 sun beds and an umbrella.- plenty other beaches as good that charge nothing if you eat in beach bar or 10-15 euros was max.
25 is a rip off

The price of the sunbeds are extortionate for 2 beds and umbrella €30. €35 if you want a front row bed. Take towels n umbrellas and sit on the sand. Only paid €10 day before at Lourdas beach, Do your homework before you set off most expensive sunbeds ever and not even a table to use.

Went today as this was our go to beach when my daughter used to come on holidays with us and for memories sake she wanted to go one last time.
I say one last time as we won't be going again. The prices are just extortionate. €35 for 2 sunbeds and I know we could of gone and put a towel down on the beach further down but it was absolutely packed because everyone else in there right mind would not pay.
We bought 2 portions of chips and a pint of lager. €20 euros.
As said it was a one off. Its a lovely beach but such a shame its gone this way as if the beds were reasonably priced they would do so much more trade in the restaurant that they have.
All the beach staff were sat around doing nothing as very few people would pay the prices.

There are 2 beach areas, the orange area - Costa and the blue area and in between a free area for own umbrellas, but overcrowded. In the orange zone - the beach has fine sand and a smooth entrance into the sea. The water is clear, suitable for snorkeling. The fee for sunbed in August is 50Euro-first raw, 40Euro - second, and 35 in the back. Quite a lot. In the blue zone there are rocks in the water, but the fees for sunbeds are lower. The parking lot gets crowded quickly, and the entrance to the parking lot is not suitable for cars with low ground clearance.

What is the state of the beach today after the storm?

Good morning Mr. Steve, I noticed that Makris Gialos was just like during winter time ( windy with big waves) . Definitely not for swimming especially two days ago but now the weather conditions are getting back to normal. I can share a picture if you want. Evans K

Taxis from main square cost around 7 to 8 euro. Journey is about 10 mins. Beach is very nice but steepish incline walkway from road. Taxis stand nearby for return

We are looking at staying in Argostoli the end of May 2020 and the hotel owner told us Makris Gialos in the nearest beach (2 km). Do you know if one can take a bus from Argostoli to the beach? We weren't planning to rent a car.
Do you think it would be as buys in May?
Is there a steep climb to get to the beach from the road. I'm 70 and not into hills.
Thank you.

There are regular buses into Lassi and as I remember the bus stop was nearby the walk down to the beach at Costa costa. A taxi is another option. It is a steep climb ( coming back up you may need to stop for a breather if you find hills difficult ) . There are several smaller beaches between Argostoli and Costa Costa ,pleasant but not the golden sands at Makris Gialos .
We have visited in June and it was similar in our opinion to August and September , particularly busy if a cruise ship is in port but always a sunbed to be found
Hope this helps
Look out for the turtles in Argostoli harbour 🐢

Is the only way to get to Makris beach via loads of steps? Stayed in Lassi last week and with mobility issues was so disappointed that we couldn’t tackle the number of steps down. Is there a simpler way

You can also use the road through the trees which lead to costa costa restaurant( just past the princess hotel, on the other side of the road) Unfortunately both the steps and road are very steep and I would not advise for the less mobile, shame really as it’s a really good beach. There is another beach a bit further up next to the White Rocks hotel, you can access this beach by car and by foot, it’s also a lovely beach and does have a small cafe at one end, also sun bed & umbrella hire.

Is there a fee to use the facility, or just to use the lounges/umbrellas? And they have water sports here at Costa Costa Beach? We are in area for just the day on cruise stop and we really want a lovely, sandy beach with water sports for the older (age 20's) kids. Also, will taxi know where to find this? I could not find an address on the website. Thanks for any guidance!

Makris Gialos beach is really well known and taxis will know where to take you. There were lots of people from cruise ship on the beach one day and they were brought by coach so you may find your cruise ship provides transport for you. The bed/brollies were 8euros per day but were going up 1st June. The bar/cafe is really good for snacks/meals/drinks etc., and the toilet facilities were very good and free to use for anyone. I didn't see any water sports companies on this beach but the sea was rough the day we went down so maybe they didn't operate. Hope you have a lovely day the beach is amazing.
