It’s many a day I’ve travelled a hundreds miles or more. Well that’s how it feels when you travel the causeway costal route, but even on a rainy March day it’s a beautiful drive. I first visited the Carrick-a-rede rope bridge some 30 years ago on my first visit to Ireland. This year is the first year I have been able to coax my wife to join me crossing the notorious national trust Crossing. Not for the feint hearted even on the best of days, let alone a wet and windy March day.
From the car park there is quite a walk along the costal path down to the bridge entrance , once you get your breath it’s then down the iron steps, this is between 70 and 80 degrees so make sure you have sensible shoes on.
As I said it’s a wet and windy March day, and Mrs Q went first, I was several feet back from her encouraging her to keep walking, eventually we were at the other side and then a quick climb up to the top of the island with gulls literally gliding to the side of you.
No sooner had we reached the top when one of the trust assistants called to us that they were closing the bridge. They do this when they get continuous gusts of 35 knts, and it was now well over that and raining. The 120 steps back across the bridge by my wife with the windy howling was to say the least no advertisement for the attraction, but she is so proud of the fact that she has done it finally.
Well worth a visit if you are in the area and have an hour spare and the weather is expected to be fine.

Got very lucky with the early crossing having gone down early to check it out as there were spaces as the later afternoon crossing had been cancelled.
I have to say the 2 guides i dealt with were so really nice friendly, helpful and chatty. and who made the whole experience just wonderful.
"Josh" the expert having being there for a while and the rookie Riise who showed great potential and who clearly had "the gift"!You'l be in good hands if either of those 2 are there, but i'm sure the rest of the team there are just as professional.
Thank you to all at the "carrick a rede rope bridge!"

We were on our way from Belfast to Giant's causeway, so decided to stop at the rope bridge en route. It was ÂŁ13.50/adult plus ÂŁ5 parking. Absolute rip off, so went around the little roundabout and left. The cost to walk over a rope bridge is unjustifiable.

Beautiful bridge. The walk to the bridge is quite nice too. Crossing the bridge is not free and ticket and get sold out, so buy in advance. Our walk got cancelled as it was too windy, but we got our money back.

Fantastic views and hairy walk across rope bridge (it moves much more than I thought it would!). Great experience though.

I was really excited to walk across this rope bridge (100ft high over the wild Atlantic and 60 ft across) and it really didn’t disappoint. It was a cold Jan Saturday afternoon and we got there about 2pm. The car park closes at 2.30pm so you need to be there before that so you can exchange your digital tickets for ones you hand in at the bridge.
It’s quite a walk downhill, difficult steps in places so be mindful of this if you have mobility issues.
The staff at the beginning and end of the Bridge are so friendly. They let you down one or two at a time and there is no pressure to go fast over it. I took lots of photos on it and even a video on the way back. The member of staff coming back even kindly took great photos of my husband and I just about to cross the bridge again. So grateful as those photos make amazing memories.
It was a teeny bit wobbly and I had to be careful not to drop my phone so I couldn’t hold on to the ropes either side but that added to the fun.
By far the best and most exhilarating experience in Northern Ireland. Would definitely recommend doing it!

Easy hike but lots of steps for those with bad knees. Rope bridge was sturdy and easy to cross. Shop at the beginning with bathrooms before you go

Already in our eighties my wife & I visited Carrick-a-Rede last year with her school friend from 1947 at the family home at Kilmacrew, many many visits crammed in to one week - but worth it.

We walked to the top of the descent down to the bridge. But the steps were a little steep and uneven for someone needing a new knee. The views along the walk on a bright Autumnal day very great though

1) I can't seem to purchase a ticket online more than 1 month out, is there an alternate way to purchase tickets ahead of time (it is Feb, we will be there in Jun).
2) If we purchase a ticket in advance (online), and the bridge ends up being closed for weather/ winds, is there a refund?
Thank you, Emily

You can pay on the day and if the bridge is closed by the council, you'll get a refund.

Parking is free.
You can do the walk up to the bridge without paying. It does look like you need to pay because you need to pass the ticket booth but just tell them you are not crossing the bridge and they let you past without paying.

Nosotros fuimos por nuestra cuenta desde DublĂn en coche de alquiler durante nuestra ruta por el Norte de Irlanda. Conviene comprar la entrada por internet para evitar esperas
how much was it for a ticket?
how long to do the hike and walk across?

We didn't see any children the day we went. However, their website does show photos of children and suggestions for children's activities. You may need to contact them directly for any age requirements.

Has anyone come say 30 min early or late for their timed tickets and did they let you in? We're on a cruise ship and hoping it will be OK even if docking or traffic makes us outside the 1-hour ticket timing window.

They did not check our ticket time. Our window was 9:30 to 10:30 am and we got there actually right at 9:30 and no one looked at time.
