We took the shuttle and enjoyed the less than 10 minutes ride. The island is beautiful with great views of Provincetown. We found a sand dollar. The lighthouse is cool, but is completely surrounded by poison ivy. Be careful!

Interesting walk across the harbor to visit the lighthouse. We saw a family with little kids who were enjoying the rock climbing. We’re glad we did it!! Good to be outside & not crowded during midweek.

At first it seemed nerve-wracking walking on the jetty rocks, but after a while you get used to it . It takes about an hour each way to cross the jetty to the other side, then about 10-15 more to make it to the beach. But it's well worth it.

What can be more peaceful and fun? Walking/ hopping the flat boulders on the jetty at Long Point is simply the best! The views on both sides are stunning. One can look at the water as the tides are coming and going and get mesmerized. The marshes on one side are dreamy and all that the views on the ocean have to offer are wonderous.
We make it a point to take a walk on this amazing jetty each time we visit the Cape. If you plan carefully, you can walk all the way to the other side. During high tide, it is not completely passable.
There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy. We were fortunate enough to spot a few seagulls in action. They had crabs that they caught and made a sort of game of smashing them on the boulders by dropping them, until they cracked open (for lunch).
While many people enjoy this route, there is always space. Be sure to have a good amount of time (at least an hour), to thoroughly take in the beauty that Long Point has to offer.

While this makes for a great hike for the hardy, going by boat is fun and faster. After doing some whale watching in the bay we boated over for a little beach time. The beach is rarely crowded, coupled with magnificent views of the town make this an outstanding outing. We packed snacks, drinks and lunch and made an afternoon of it. This is a unique way to see Provincetown and for those without a boat there is a shuttle to take you out and pick you up. There are no service including water or bathrooms so be prepared. If you bring it with you bring it back with you.

So before you do this, you've got to be prepared. It was my first time and I wasn't very informed and did not do much research. Also, I have been quarantined for the past 16 months and have been getting quite out of shape and that didn't help much either. So "what had happened was" that me and my partner jumped from rock to rock for a whole mile across the hook that took about an hour to get to a path lined with poison to get to the beach. That was exhausting but fine, we didn't bring any heavy stuff with us and no beach chairs so we just soaked our feet in the cool water and was feeling alright. I didn't want to jump over rocks for another hour to get back thinking that my ankles might not be up to the challenge and I heard that there was a shuttle fairy that would bring us back to the pier at the far side of the beach near the lighthouse and thought I'll just walk that 1.5 miles and that's where I messed up.
I didn't think that it would be so difficult walking 1.5 miles on the sand that it would take me 2 hours. With no food, water, bathrooms, ATM and the sand giving way whenever I step on it, I almost thought I would need to get rescued. It's not the beach's fault and it is quite scenic and soothing but I just wasn't ready. Between burning my feet in the hot sand and losing my footing and sinking in the wet sand, I wasn't having the best of time. Also the part where I got the the ferry spot and realizing I don't have enough cash for the both of us to get on the cash only ferry. Thankfully the ferry captain let us on seeing how haggard I was.
Once I got back to the pier, I went to the closest deli and bought the largest soda and downed it all in one gulp. If I had to do it all over again, I would have brought some beach chairs and just get on the ferry to go to the nice part of Long Point, hang out, read a book, frolic on the beach and take the ferry right back when I'm done.

Moderately challenging walk (wear tennis shoes) - LOTS of ticks on the other side. We picked 4-5 off our dog and we didn't even walk the smaller trails to the lighthouse. Great views - it felt great on a 64 degree day, but I'm sure it would get very hot on a 70+ day, so bring plenty of water and sunscreen.

We loved our walk our to the beach! Once we arrived we had the beach to ourselves. Give yourself a lot of time, wear sturdy footwear, and watch your step. I still rate this as a "5" even though I fell between two rocks near the end of my return trip, as I loved the views and the exercise.

We walked across the jetty & out to the beach, total of over 3 miles plus but fun. Wear good sneakers or boots for the jetty bc over a mile long on uneven rocks but worth it.

Three mile walk to the lighthouse, long but easy. Great views once you get to the very tip of the Cape. Pack a lunch and have a picnic, great spot to catch some rays and relax.

Where is the best place to park the car?

There was never a problem with parking. Every place we went on the Cape had plenty of public parking. I for one do not like going places when I'm not sure about parking but this trip was a piece of cake.

Is it possible to take the ferry one way only returning from Long point to the pier? Thinking about walking there but returning via ferry.

It's not the fast ferry that folks think of (that runs to Boston) but instead a private vessel. Cost is $15 pp round trip, departure place is MacMillan Wharf, and it leaves hourly from 10-5. Daily beach gear (coolers, chairs, fishing tackle) can be brought on board as well.

If we take the shuttle to Long Point, is it an easy hike to explore the breakwater? We have a five year old so we would not want to walk the entire breakwater back. Just a bit, then return to the shuttle boat.

The walk from Long Point to the breakwater is possible, provided you keep in mind the following:
Walk on the bay side back towards the breakwater; it's a shorter walk than around on the Atlantic side. Once you get off the ferry immediately turn right down the beach.
The distance from Long Point to the breakwater is maybe 1.5 miles, so a walk to and from would be about three miles. That's longer than just a beach stroll between relaxing moments on your towels.
Bring water and sun protection; there are no shady areas or amenities.
Not sure what's reasonable with a 5yo in tow, but if you make this hike your day at the beach and include breaks along the way, snack stops, and dips in the water it seems like it'd be reasonable.
Is there an address or nearby landmark that will help us find this spot?

If you stand on a bayside beach (anywhere right off commercial and look out across the water to the lighthouse about a mile to mile and a half away, that's Long Point. You get there by kayak, small ferry boat (ferries leave hourly from two peers off commercial street - $15 round trip, chairs and umbrellas for rent on the boats for $5), or you can hike for a few hours on the beach to it (not recommended). It's low crowds because it's isolated but still easy enough to get to.
