I have visited Bhutan three times. This is hands down my favourite shop and I visit it whenever I come. Over 90% of the textiles are made in Bhutan as opposed to many of the other shops who import from other countries. The prices reflect the local nature of the merchandise. I really enjoy talking to the shop owner. She is very knowledgable about all of her textiles, where they are from in Bhutan as well as how they are made. She takes great pride in supporting local weavers and in supporting the textile industry in Bhutan. While some of the prices are more expensive you just need to look at the details to see why. For example, a friend brought a scarf in another shop and is was a little less than I paid but when we looked we realised that my scarf had properly finished tassels but my friends scarf was not finished and quickly became tangled.

You get a good variety of souvenir / handicraft items here, as also textiles, but the stuff is vastly overpriced, so it is good only for window-shopping.

We visited this weaving emporium on our final day in Bhutan, looking for genuine Bhutanese-made products. We found them, and are delighted with them. The lady who owns the shop was very hepful and explained why there are such big variations in price: basically you get what you pay for. The more ornate the work and the more expensive the base materials, the higher the price. It's what you might expect. We felt that the proprietor was honest and knowledgeable, and would certainly recommend people to visit, if only to see how weaving is done.

We visited this store during our stay at Paro in December 2014, this store is very much authentic in Bhutanese handicrafts and textile. Here all will experience live hand weaving process inside the store, this store has huge collection of genuine handricrafts be it their national attire, jewelleries artefacts and also handbags all are handmade and the creation is also at its best. The shop owner a beautiful and dignified lady who also owns her own Resort behind the Paro town named Hotel Samdencholing Eco Resort. The behavior of this lady is extremely fine and all the items displayed in her store is really outstanding. One who love to collect mementos from the visiting country please do visit Chencho Handicraft, its beside the childrens park at Paro town center.

This store fleeces the unsuspecting tourists with double to triple prices. The people of the store are highly uncooperative and arrogant. There is nothing distinctive about the products in the store and same items are available in the numerous stores in the vicinity and at half the price. We went based on the numerous good reviews posted on trip advisor, but were sorely disappointed.

There are many handycraft shops in Paro...more than any other place. All the other shops are lovely and many things can be found. But if you'd like to get textiles, I would at least check this place out. This shop is not in the main street, but couple street over. There are women who are actually weaving in the shop and the collection of woven textiles is vast. Once you see this shop, you will probably want to shop for textiles here instead of other shops.

We had already explored the markets of Thimphu and Paro before coming to this shop. I was interested in picking up handicrafts and locally made stuff, but found everything to be quite expensive almost everywhere in the market.
The pricing of all the products was similar in this shop too. But it was a delight to look at the weaving being done in front of us. The quality of the hand woven scarfs and shawls were really good which gave us confidence to choose some. We picked up 3 shawls from there. The lady in charge was good natured and gave us some discount to oblige us. At the end it was a satisfactory experience.
The place is worth a visit!

It is in Paro town. Chencho handicrafts specialises on handwoven materials. It is a small shop bifurcated into 2 areas. In one area we could see women weavers who were busy with their work. They told us that it takes months for them to finish their product. We could see the dedication and keen concentration of the ladies .

Also they were selling their products. Nice place to see how weaving happens.

this shop has a team of weavers working their looms in the shop so that you can see how the various cloths are woven. There is no pressure to purchase, however the proprietor (a very knowledgeable and pleasant lady) is happy to explain how the weaving takes place and show you examples of the finished produce without hassling you to buy.
My wife was looking for a shawl to use as a wall hanging and had seen something in another town which had inspired her. She wanted a hand woven garment not a machine woven one. We first looked at length in this shop and she decided to look at the other shops in town prior to purchasing anything. You will find that there are more handicraft stores in Paro than anywhere else in Bhutan and my wife insisted in looking in every one of them (no kidding) anyway the long and the short of the story was that she could not beat the quality or the price at Chencho so back we went and purchased a very nice shawl that now adorns our wall.
This shop is also known as the Traditional Weaving House.
This one is really worth having a look at if you want woven garments - sure check out the other places but look here first so you have something to compare against.
