We enjoyed our visit to the mounds and the museum. We also walked the Douglas Nature Trail, which was shaded, pretty and well-kept. There was a scenic River lookout at the end as well.

I'm very much into archeology, especially in the United States. I strolled over the mounds and visited the museum. Lots to see, though I understand some of the exhibits had been removed. Still, we were captivated by what we saw.

We enjoyed the descriptions of life in the Mississippian Culture and the scenarios that depicted various aspects of the culture. Sadly, a great many of the artifacts in the museum had been removed. We were disappointed as we had looked forward to spending much of our time there. It would have been nice to have known this before we paid the entrance fee.

We have visited native American Mounds in Texas but this place was by far better. You can actually climb to the top of 2 of the Mounds and look at the surrounding scenery which was beautiful! We watched a brief introduction video at the visitor center which helped us understand a bit more about the park. We were able to visit a little "Indian village" as well which showed what life was like for the native Americans during that time.
We were given a tour of the museum and saddened to see many of the artifacts have been removed BUT we were told they are being given back to the ancestors of the people who lived and died here which is where they should be. The wax figures in the museum look real which was a bit weird but we learned they actually took casts of real people's faces and that's why they looked so life like. There is also a small gift shop and Cafe in the museum as well. If you love native American history don't miss a stop here. It was truly an amazing experience!

We visited Moundville on the 4th of July. The park was quiet, but so much to do and helpful people at the visitor's center and at the museum/gift shop. You can climb some of the mounds, visit the water, go on some hikes in the trees, visit the exhibits, visit the museum, feed the turtles and fish, and so much more. It was hot, but so much fun!

This was a high point of the many fascinating Alabama sites. While the museum small, life-sized dioramas illustrate what life was like. While lightly raining when I arrived, it stopped before I examined the mounds. Although you can wander among them, the park only permits you to climb two via installed staircases. They give a sense of layout and allow you to easily survey what remains. Apparently, this is the second largest Mississippian site in the country (the largest is Cahokia in Illinois).

I had a really great experience. The greeter at the entrance was very kind and knowledgeable. The grounds are very nice and well maintained. The exhibits are very detailed and informative. They allow you on two of the mounds and preserve the others. I don't know who maintains their Three Sisters Garden, but I was impressed! It's not huge, but it was very nicely done AND they included quite a few species of native wildflowers! Love it! The small wetland areas were also very pretty.

This is an awesome site. There are loads of things to see, from the Black Warrior to the traditional burial mount. The history of this site is amazing and well worth the stop in. It is a shame that the guided tour along with the video at the beginning was shut down due to covid - but still an awesome site to explore. I could recommend coming here with little ones as they have a history museum with plenty to see.

We had no idea this history even existed in the U.S. until planning our Alabama trip! This was an easy and interesting introduction into pre-European Native American history that predates even the Aztec and Inca civilizations we learned about in school. Only takes an hour to drive through, including hiking up two mounds, grabbing coffee, and seeing the museum. Don't miss the three educational huts located in the trees a small hike from the museum!!

Gift shop way overpriced. Preachy woman in museum. Started argument when her opinion could have been kept to herself. Political correctness is oozing out of the staff.

How handicapp accessible is this ro disable people? My father is in a wheelchair how easy or hard would it be to visit the park.

The first mound that has stairs is not accessible for wheelchairs. And I do not remember if the one that is by the museum is either. However, I thought it was but my husband said it was not. You might want to call just to me sure. If your father can't even access one mound it might not be worth it to you. But you could still go and look at the Native American village and the museum. It would come down to how important is it for your father to get up on a mound. To me it was the highlight of the trip. If there are no ramps when you call it would definitely be something to bring to their attention. I believe the mounds should be accessible for everyone.
