Now if Porcelain is your thing then this Museum is an absolute must on your bucket list. The region is the home of all thing Porcelain in China. The museum is modern and well set out. Floor after floor covers the history of Porcelain with an unbelievable collection of exhibits. Oh I wish this was on my back door but alas it’s thousands of kilometres away from New Zealand.
Interestingly many of the pieces of Porcelain on display have come from other parts of the world. China lost a lot of its heritage during repeated revolutions. Jingdezhen has a lot to offer for those interested in Porcelain and it’s history through to modern production. It’s an area that is undiscovered and waiting to be found for any tourist wanting to learn and discovery. The Jingdezhen Porcelain Museum is a must see so allow plenty of time to appreciate what is on offer.

This is the modern museum of Chinese ceramics and pottery. Very large, multi-storey and beautifully designed. Lots of displays (with exhibits spanning over many dynasties) and very well organized. Great for anyone interested in the history of ceramics in China. Even if you are not, it is an interesting place to visit whilst in Jingdezhen, a town which is famous for its ceramic products.

Jingdezhen is supposed to be the most important city for Chinese Ceramics (Porcelain) of the country. International recognized and admired, this is a recently open museum. There are some other museum with similar names (Jingdezhen/Ceramics) but this is the most important and where some of the most important pieces from the small museum (the Drangon Pearl Pagoda, for example) have been sent.
This is a new museum in the outskirts of the city. As it is so difficult to rent a car within China, unless you are with a group you will need a taxi to get there (and book another one for the way back). It opens at 9 in the morning, and the day we were there (3 hours and I wish we could have gone some more days) was almost empty. There was a couple of groups of school boys and girls, some Chinese visitors and us (the only westerns - maybe a 0.5%.
The quality of the pieces (I talk about porcelain which is the only subject of the Museum) is absolutely amazing. And most of the pieces are unknown and unpublished. Museography pretty good (with simple translations into English), very educational,... We only had time for one of the floors but we missed 2 of them. The quality of the pieces is really exceptional (most of them are pieces produced in Jingdezhen for the Forbidden City - same level than the ones at the National Museum in Beijing, Shanghai Museum and even Taipei).
By the end of 2017 a new speed train will join Shanghai to Jingdezhen in less than 3 hours. And then... the crowds will start visiting this amazing collection.
Ah! I don't think there was a tea/coffee room... but the shops in the basement - pretty good selection of reproductions. We missed the floor of Cultural Revolution Pottery... and I saw some really interesting things in the brochure.
If you like Chinese Porcelain this is a MUST SEE!

As the entry is at 95RMB, the freqentation of the museum is low. So you can visit at your rythm. The garden is very nice, and a lot of nice porcelain to buy.

The museum looks dilapidated and is not very big, but there are some excellent exhibits and a new one is already being built. The porcelain shops nearby are superb, especially if you're looking for high quality.
