Our yacht moored in Pomena. Walked into the park from there and hiked up to the Lookout. It was not easy but the trail was well marked and the views were totally worth it. After hiking back down we took the boat across to the church and had a glass of wine before taking it again back to the dock closer to the entrance (we were pretty much done walking after the hike!). Had a fabulous dinner in Pomena and watched the sun set. Perfect day!

A beautiful tranquil island well worth a visit. If you’re a lover of swimming, nature, hiking and great scenery you’ll love it. We visited from Dubrovnik and arranged our own ferries (not part of a tour) meaning we were limited by the ferry times as to how long we could spend there as only ran once a day. A whole day at least is needed to be able to fully relax and explore, ideally we would have stayed for longer. Although late September the weather was still high twenties on the island. The walk from the Polace ferry Port to the lakes was a decent 30minute walk, not too strenuous on the way down but was a lot more challenging on the way back with the uphill and heat! Some paths down to the lakes were not well paved so decent walking shoes are a must. The lakes were an amazing blue and clear and fairly warm to swim in. Lovely spot by the bridge connecting the two lakes to sit with toilet and ice cream facilities too. A lovely day trip. Would recommend particularly during off peak season to avoid any crowds.

See this place before you can't travel any more. A must see. The lakes and the forest were fantastic, take a bike ride around the lake.

Mljet Nationals Park is located in Mljet Island, in the Dalmatian Coast, in Croatia. We came here to visit the park at the end of October and it was a very nice experience. We could go to Polače, a little town with Roman ruins; Pomena, another little town with an excellent hotel, where we had breakfast and we went to the tourist office; Govedari, where you can see St. Nicholas Church; St. Mary Church, which is located in an island inside a lake in the Mljet Islands (very nice place, especially in low season without people), two lakes: Malo Jezero and Veliko Jezero, the big and the small ones) and some mountains to go up and see views of the island and surroundings. Very nice place to come a full day.

We came to the island for a few nights specifically to visit the national park. It is very beautiful, but we struggled to walk huge distances as it was very hot - should have come a few weeks later……
The pricing is bizarre. If you’re staying nearby, you ask your hotel for a voucher to show how long you’re staying for. You then present this at the ticket office, which is just before the entrance path, and pay 25 euros per person for however long your stay is for. We paid this amount each for a 4 day pass, meanwhile, other people were visiting for just the one day and paying the same…….?! A sliding scale of charges would have more fair I think. It’s very steep if you’re only going for one day. As a previous reviewer has said - do we charge to go to the Lake District? Our U.K. national parks are free - I’ve always thought this was the ethos of a national park. 20 euros would have been more than enough, especially bearing in mind that the average annual salary in Croatia is about 16000 euros.
The water was lovely for swimming so long as you were able to get in. You need special swimming shoes ideally. And be careful, as some of the stones are slippery. The channel was good fun for many people, and people were really enjoying themselves.
We took the boat ride (included in ticket price) to the monastery island, and that was an enjoyable thing to do.
There are some toilets near the bridge where the two lakes meet. Rather appalling ones, but at least there were some. No facility to wash your hands, so take some hand gel with you……. Poor, especially when you consider the entrance fee.
All in all, a beautiful area, and lots of well marked trails for both cycling and walking. Great for cycling (but rent once you’re in the park), although I’ve no idea of the quality of bikes, (I didn’t spot many helmets), as I didn’t do that myself.

We took the ferry to the island. There is no signage from the ferry stop, which was a shock. Turn right when getting off the ferry and walk almost to the roman ruins. The staircase to begin your walk is on your left across from the tourist information booth.
We were grateful we hadn’t rented bikes at the port, because the climb would have been difficult on a bike. There were a couple of places inside the park to rent bikes. Btw the small toilets at the park entrance- clean and comfortable.
It’s about half an hour walk to the park. Look for signs pointing to any form of “Jezera”, which are the big and small lakes.
Some people who weren’t mobile were able to get taxis.
We took the solar ferry boat on all three legs. Spacious and comfortable and come every 15-30 minutes. We had lunch at the monastery, pleasant to sit at, somewhat expensive for the salad and appetizer we got, however, the people who go “real” meals, got heaping plates. That seemed to be a far better value, but big meals plus that heat, we just couldn’t do it.
Spent a little while walking around the small monastery island. TBH not much to see there.
Wish we’d brought swim gear to do the bridge area between the two lakes. There’s a natural sort of water slide there and people were enjoying it immensely, lots of picnickers on that end. We walked part of the way around the smaller lake, and wish we’d had time to rent a bike or kayak, but with the half hour walk back to the ferry, there just wasn’t time.
We do see reviews indicating that people slipped in without paying, but we were asked to produce tickets a couple of times. And you really should help to support such a lovely place instead of just lip service. And how much did your dinner cost last night that you’re too cheap to pay the entry fee today!
We wish we’d had more time on the island, and if we go back, would spend a night or two.

My husband has multiple sclerosis and cannot walk for long, so visiting the NP Mljet we took the electric train tour, and it was a great experience. The driver was really nice and told us some info on the life on the island....I reccomend this tour to anyone with walking difficulties. We walked from Pomena to Mali most and it was ok but the train stops at the entrance of the park where the parking lot is so it is accesible even for someone who cyn do just a few meters...

25E each is outrageous. The place is nice but not a patch on the English Lakes that are free.
Nothing to see in the murky water, nothing but pines in the forest.
Minimum 15E bike hire for very poor quality machines, 25E for 1.5 hours kayak.
I reckon you could probably just walk through the gate free if you timed it right.

I would like to know if, I'm staying in hotel odeysy, so do I pay every day for the park?
Ditulis pada 28 Januari 2024
You can find this information on Mljet National park pages.
So the ticket is worth for one week for guests staying in hotel/Private rooms in National park, but you have to say where you are staying and have an identity card...The ticket is individual for every guest.

We stayed at Hotel Odisej, it’s clean comfortable and the staff couldn’t do enough to help. The hotel its self is dated but the service more than made up for that. Would recommend the upgrade room so that you get to enjoy the beautiful views from the comfort of prívate balcony.

Kan ik vanuit de haven sobra met een normale fiets het eiland bekijken. Of moet je altijd de auto meenemen. Wie heeft hier ervaring mee?
Ditulis pada 31 Agustus 2019
the island is short (like 50 km coast to coast) but I should use the bike only in the national park where is easy and safe to drive. the island is full of roads with very steep slopes from 9 to 12%! in the evening there are not lights and this summer I saw very few people on bike.

Ciao!

Hi, we are planning on going to Mljet. The ferry leaves at 8pm, as it´s on a Thursday. We are planing on being there at 7pm. My question is what is the best option to get to the port? we have a car, is it better to drive there and there park somewhere nearby? or take a bus. Pricewise.
Thanks,
Carmen

So sorry, they did not notify me of your question. However, I am no help anyway -- from where to which port?

Hi. Does anyone know what if any excursions TUI offer while on Mljet? Their automated emails keep prompting me to book some, but once I choose my hotel none are offered. I'm thinking not many due to the island nature, but something would be nice. If they aren't running much what would people recommend? I think a day in Dubrovnik might be nice. Get a morning ferry out, 3 or 4 hours in the city and then an afternoon ferry back. Is it that easy enough or is there anything to look out for?
Ditulis pada 9 Juni 2019
Hi, I'm out here at the moment. Tui offer a few trips around the island however the rep said it's just as easy just to cycle or get a taxi.
The ferry to Dubrovnik leaves everyday at 10:45 (buy the tickets from reception) and gives you 4 hours there before you head back (we found it more than enough)
You'll want to do the sunbed claim at about 7:00 to make sure you get one for the day.
Breakfast is ok, dinner at hotel odesej is canteen like but there are loads of great restaurants around the harbour if you fancy a change
