This is included in the Dubrovnik Pass and well worth a visit after walking the wall. Yes, it is more stairs, but you get fantastic views of the Dubrovnik walled city. There are several levels. The lowest levels can be accessed for free. The higher levels require the pass. Be sure to check for the staircases, as one level seemed like the highest, but actually there were more stairs, not directly in view, that you can take to the very top.

I had an amazing time exploring Fort Lovrijenac in Dubrovnik. The fort's rich history and the stunning views it offers are truly captivating. As a fan of 'Game of Thrones,' walking through the same spaces where the series was filmed felt surreal. I could almost picture the scenes unfolding around me. Also, a great tip for fellow travelers: with the Dubrovnik Pass, you get free entry to the fort, but remember, it's a one-time deal. Make sure to plan your visit carefully to fully enjoy this incredible place. For me, Fort Lovrijenac was more than just a historical site; it was a journey through a beloved series and a window into the past.

Fort Lovrijenac is a stunning and imposing cliff-top fort located outside the medieval walls of the Old Town. It was built to guard the western entrance to the city from the Adriatic Sea.
Steeped in legend and dubbed Dubrovnik's Gibraltar, Lovrijenac Fortress (aka the Red Keep in King’s Landing) is built on a very prominent rock outcropping, a 37m high cliff, to protect the city from a Venetian attack.
Folklore states that early in the 11th century, the Venetians attempted to build a fort on the same spot where Fort Lovrijenac currently stands. If they had succeeded, they would have kept Dubrovnik under their power, but the people of the city beat them to it.
The “Chronicles of Ragusa” revealed how the fort was built within just three months and from then on constantly reconstructed and fortified. When the Venetian ships arrived, full of materials for the construction of the fort, they were told to return to Venice.
We visited the fortress as it was included in our Dubrovnik city pass, but a ticket for the Old Town walls also includes a visit to this fort but only valid for the same day. The reviews on this site are very mixed and I agree, that although the views are amazing, I would not pay an extra entrance fee.
There was a slight climb up to the fortress entrance. As I have knee issues, I was a bit concerned whether I could make it – but I took my time while dodging those running down and I was glad that I made the effort as the views were so beautiful. There was more climbing inside the fortress as we explored the area, although there really was not much to see.
Fort Lovrijenac has a triangular shape with three terraces with parapets overlooking the sea. The sea-facing side of the fortress has walls 12 meters thick but on the land facing side, the walls are only 60 centimeters thick. This was done so that if the fort was ever taken into enemy hands, the city’s cannons could break the walls.
It was defended by ten large cannons, including the beautifully carved ‘Gušter’ (‘Lizard’) made by Ivan Rabljanin. Above the door leading into the fort is the famous inscription ‘Non Bene Pro Toto Libertas Venditur Auro’ – ‘freedom is not to be sold for all the gold in the world.’ There are two movable bridges leading to a door to access the fortress.
Game of Thrones fans will recognise Lovrijenac Fortress as the Red Keep in King’s Landing, the capital of the Seven Kingdoms. Scenes filmed here include the tournament thrown in honour of King Joffrey’s name day in the second series. The interiors of the fortress were used as the halls of the Red Keep and the exteriors are seen in shots of Blackwater Bay, were Myrcella Baratheon is shipped off to Dorne.

The fort itself is nothing special. Pretty basic and there's really nothing inside to see. If you're smart and you got your Dubrovnik card, then it didn't cost you anything to get in here. We came on a GOT tour so we got to add the discussion and photos from the series that made the fort a little more interesting. The best part though is definitely the views. The best views of old town from the top of the fort for sure. Worth the trip up all the stairs to go inside.

There is a steep climb to get to the entrance to the fort and we hadn’t realised that the ticket for the Old Town walls included this, but paid anyway. There were a lot of GoT yours going on and although I can’t remember specific scenes, you could see how this setting would need little alteration to fit into the storyline.
Well worth looking back at the Old Town, fascinating building.

The views from the top of the fort were stunning, and well worth the steep climb up to get them. Be sure to take a camera as there are plenty of photo opportunities! We visited whilst on a walking tour, and therefore had talks from the guide which gave us lots of information about the fort. However, if you visit this on your own, I don't think there is a guide to give you this information (but you can probably buy a guide book, which I chose not to do). It's definitely worth combining a visit here with a walk around the city walls as you can get a ticket which grants you entry to both.

We visited the fort as it was included in our Dubrovnik city walls ticket. There was a slight climb up to the fort, but totally worth it as the views were so beautiful. Loved the view of the little harbour down the bottom. There wasn’t too much to see in the fort itself and it was actually hard to determine where you were and weren’t supposed to go. I think there were a few Games of Thrones filming locations there to see. I wouldn’t recommend paying for a visit, but definitely worth it if you have the city pass or the city walls ticket.

We visited the Fort in the morning when it was cooler. It offers beautiful views of the black water bay and city.
Some reviews mention lots of steep steps but honestly it wasn’t that much of a climb either :)
The fort has a few levels and offers great views all around. Many GoT tour groups were also here with their guides.

The views over the old city of Dubrovnik are worth the effort but there is nothing else inside the fort . No information about the fort at all. A bit of effort is required.

We went to visit the fort and found that it was closed for a private wedding but we had already paid 35 Euro for a city pass. Went the next day and found out that it is 15 Euro but you have to climb 206 steps to find out the cost. There are better view of Dubrovnik for free.

I just want to confirm is the hours of operation is from 8:00am-7:30pm all year or does it close early during the off season? We are heading there in late October and would like to know if that changes since nighttime goes a little early as oppose to summer.

I understand that entrance to Fort Lawrence is free when you have a City Walls ticket, but do you have to visit the Fort on the same day that you do the City Walls tour? I'd like to visit the Fort a few days after, as part of a GOT tour. Thanks in advance.
