Considered sacred for performing thithi for ancestors. Thidhi not allowed at main pond guptagangai due to Corona and being done at yama theertham outside the temple premises. Has parking area. Separate Temple for yama chitragupta and bairavar.

Historical place for doing rituals for departed souls. Holy place equivalent to Kasi for offering darpanam. The temple pond guptagangai is considered holy than Ganges but it is so dirty and less water and needs cleaning and maintenance. Visit Lord Yama before visiting vanchinathasamy. Considered good for people with ailments to getting cured. 28 KMS from Kumbakonam with narrow roads. Better maintenance would be great.

Srivanchiyam is a sacred ancient temple built during Chola period. We had been to this place for performing abhishekam for Lord Siva. It was an hour ride from Kumbakonam and the temple is not crowded in spite of Pradhosam day. Yamadharmar has a separate shrine here and Durga pooja is conducted every Tuesday and Friday by local women.
In the office room they refused to give receipt after collecting Rs.500/- for abhisekam. When I insisted they said it would be sent by post which I never received even after a week. Again the chief kurukkal who performs pooja tells us to give money directly to him instead of office.
Will the responsible officials of Hindu Religious and Charitable endowments look into this matter where group of people are exploiting pilgrims like us by not giving any receipt for pooja or abhisekam taking the money into their own pocket.
Overall, the temple is sacred and peaceful but the staff here are not giving any credit to the temple trust.

Nice Temple. A Temple were Rahu and Ketu are in same stone. Separate shirne for Yama dharma raja. No water in temple pond during my visit. Only a few direct buses from thiruvarur. One can reach Nannilam and also reach here. Get down at ACHUDHAMANGALAM stop and walk from there or take auto. Bus fare from thiruvarur to achudhamangalam was 10rs and took around 1.30hrs travel time. If you are with young group of people you can take a walk from achudhamangalam through the paddy fields. Private vehicle highly recommended for family visits as bus frequency to thiruvarur is very less. No good hotels available near temple for eatables or stay. Better have everything in thiruvarur.

You can also visit this place from kumbakonam. Near by places to this temple are Nannilam, Mankkal, Mapillaikuppam etc. Lots of buses ply to Nannilam.

The large temple is located in a small village called Srivanchiyam, which is close to places like Nanilam and Tiruvarur. I have been a frequent visitor to the temple. As many people have mentioned in trip advisor the specialty of the temple is that it has a separate sanctum for Yama Dharma. More than that, the significance is that it is a Moksha sthall. People seeking liberation must visit this temple and understand and experience HIM here. When someone in the family dies, it is customary to light a Moksha deepam at this place, thus helping the soul to get liberated. The temple is generally not crowded expect during festival occasions. Once a year a holy dip at the temple tank is organized and several people visit the temple, take a dip and pray to the lord. Though a very old temple, i feel that maintenance is very poor. Several facilities for pilgrims are lacking in this place and that is reason why i rate the temple at 3.

Recently, I have been to Srivanchiyam temple along with my parents & Abi sis (Myladuthurai).

The presiding deity of the temple is Vanchinathan which is a Swoyambhu (Self Manifested) Lingam, along with his consort Mangalambikai. Sandalwood is the Stala Vriksham here and Sandal leaves are used to perform pooja to the Lord.

There is a separate sanctum for Yama dharma Raja and people should worship Yama Dharma Raja before worshiping other deities of the temple. This is a Mukthikshetram where you attain Salvation.

We had a great dharshan at the temple, offered our prayers & felt divine.

It is about 20-30 minutes from Thiruvarur, a small dainty village with the magnificent temple hailed as the oldest Swayambu Lingam in the world. Do not expect a spic n span commercial temple, expect a temple maintained by locals. The tank is special here known as Gupta Ganga, water was pumped since the pond was dry. There is a shrine for Yama (God of death and Chitragupta) which we should see before seeing the lord. Nothing to regulate the locals here as they have all the attention but nevertheless the temple carries a special history and is part of agni purana, skanda purana and many other puranas. We would certainly be happy if a bit more attention is given to the upkeep of the temple. There is a Brahmin mess nearby, the only place for coffee or any eats.

Lot of significances. 1) Have a dip or wash hands and legs in the temple tank, if water is available. 2)one has to worship lord Yama first at the left side of entrance.3)There is exclusive sanadhi for Raghu and Kethu...4) Goddess Mahishashudra Mardhini sannathi is there. From Kumbakonam pl get down at Achuthamangalam stopping and get an auto for Rs.30/-.from Kumbakonam one hour journey.

It is located in a small village called Srivanchiyam which is accessible from both Kumbakonam and Thiruvarur towns by road.
The main deities of the temple are Lord Shiva(known as Vanchinatha swamy) and Devi Parvathy(known as Mangalambika).
The temple is also famous, for it is the only temple with a separate sannidhi for Lord Yamadharmaraja. It is believed that if one offers prayers at this temple with dedication, he is relieved of the 'Death fear'(Mruthyu bayam).
There is an adjoining pond which is clean and beautiful.
There are special festivals held here during the Tamil month of Karthigai (october-november).
